Seaway Plastics: What is plastic overmolding? Overmolding is a technique that plastic manufacturers use when creating certain products that require two different substrates in one product/assembly. It involves a plastic press injecting one substrate, usually some type of plastic resin, first into the mold. After the first material has cooled, the plastic injection machine injects the second material over the first. Here, one of Seaway's team members trims off the extra plastic/substrate to finish the part.
